Chilly Philly / Just Call Me Ayoyo

First of all - yay for Missouri. McCaskill and stem cells both got the nod. It was looking bleak there for a while, but it worked out in the end. One thing, though, that bugged me in the '04 elections and bugged me this time too was that a good portion of the voting sites were in churches. Kia and I voted in a church. Other people I talked to voted in churches. I realize that churches have spaces (function halls and big event rooms) made for just this kind of thing, and they are usually more than willing to allow the space to be used. But when you have to walk right by a big flashing sign telling you how to vote on a certain amendment, right before you go and cast your vote, that seems wrong to me.

Anyway, Philly was great. Got to spend time with Mom and Dad and Kate. Got to visit Kate's apartment that she shares with Jacob (pronounced Ya-akobe). Went to the art museum and walked (didn't run) up the steps. Went on a trolley tour. Went to the zoo. Almost got stranded at the zoo. Saw Dave. Saw where Kate does her radio show. Visited Eastern State Penitentiary, where people used to be held in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, and where Al Capone spend some time. We did a lot of walking, braved some chilly weather, and ate zero cheesesteaks. My parents also brought me a letter sent to their house in Lexington, written on Oberlin letterhead, and addressed to an Oyoyo Bonner. Apparently, Oyoyo is a prospective Oberlin student who is also an accomplished basketball player, and the women's bball team was interested in pursuing her. So while my name isn't remoting close to that, it's kind of cool that a recruitment letter came for me, even if it wasn't intended for that purpose. Also, if anyone wants to call me Ayoyo, be my guest.

Shortly on the heels of that visit, Kia's parents are arriving in town on Thursday. The only plans thusfar are to see Spamalot.

And you thought fantasy football was exciting...

Off to Philadelphia this weekend, to see my sister and my parents. There is a very substantial chance that I'll see Dave, and a decent chance that I'll see Leslie. A mini Oberlin reunion.

So I leave you with this...in case fantasy football just isn't exciting enough for you. It looks like one guy you'll certainly have to pick up is Don Young, who's got an incredible 1905 points as of this writing, although I'm also a fan of my boy Teddy Kennedy, who has amassed 870 points so far. Not too shabby.
